I wondered what it would look like so I used my ham-fisted photoshop skills to find out.
UPDATE: Made a version with the hump extending to the tail. Looks like an Antonov to me now.

Hope you didn’t do something really bad to the CG, lest the ground rise up and smite thee

I’m sure it’s fine.

Looks a bit like a 4 engined 787 dreamliner.

Maybe the 787 is just a de-humped 747.

Wouldn’t that just be an A340?

I was hoping you meant double decker the whole way back.

Interesting. I wonder how it would look if you shopped a 777 nose onto it. That would make the proportions more accurate to that iconic Boeing nose.

Ooh, I might have to try that next. A bit more challenging, but I think I can do it.

Wouldn’t that be pretty much the dreamlifter

Boeing themselves were initially thinking on those lines in the ‘60s.

Okay, you have definitely messed up the center of gravity and the aircraft will fall down and go boom

Let’s all be thankful that I’m not an aeronautical engineer.

I like them all better than the Airbus!

A double decker with no hump was the original design. IIRC, there were passenger evacuation issues(distance to doors, wings in the way). They were pretty far along with the double decker design. Switching to the hump almost bankrupted Boeing.

I know nothing of 747s, centers of gravity, or air travel in general but uh... any chance anyone could approve me for publishing on Oppo? I lost my key to my old account (which I barely used anyway but I want to actually contribute now! With real, actual content!)

I’m not a mod, so I can’t approve. If you comment on this post, they should respond, though.

Ahh thanks, I couldn’t remember if anyone could grant authorship or if it had to be a mod.

changing the body of one of the most gorgeous airliners ever??? that’s like these guys who add a spoiler or flares to a Corvette. There’s no improving on perfection. btw; growing up in Mukilteo I got to witness the first flight of the first 747 with the yellow Boeing F-86 chase plane alongside. They had the coolest chase plane anywhere then. The ‘City of Everett’ now resides at the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field in Seattle. But it was built in Mukilteo.

Hump gets removed and it magically turns into an Airbus.
